Divorce Decree & Child Custody Agreement Translation

What Is a Divorce Decree?

A divorce decree is signed by the judge and summarizes the terms of the divorce judgment. It formally ends the marriage of the couple and details how marital property is divided. If a spouse would like to revert to their maiden name, they can usually do that as part of their divorce. When a judge grants such requests, the divorce decree will include the court’s order regarding the name change, and can be used as proof that the spouse has legally changed their name. Most divorce decrees include the spouses’ identifying information as well as any minor children. They might include the court’s address and case number too.

What Is a Child Custody Agreement?

A child custody agreement describes the details of the arrangement that the parents have agreed to in terms of visitation and support. It might include instructions in regards to which parent has primary custody and visitation schedule for the non-custodial parent. Such agreements may also include a clause which outlines how parents can go about making changes to the child custody arrangement in case the need arises.

If your divorce papers and child custody agreement is in a foreign language, please contact us regarding our certified translation services. Do I Need a Certified Translation of My Divorce Related Documents?

It depends on what you are planning to do with the translation. If you need the translation for official use, then you probably need a certified translation for your documents. Likewise, you will need to provide a certified translation of your divorce documents if you are planning to use the translations in a court. On the other hand, if your lawyer or another party just wants to know what the documents say you probably do not have to get a certified translation.

What Is the Cost of Professional Translation for Legal Documents?

Certified Translations for US Universities & Colleges

International students who are completing their application for universities or colleges in Southern or Northern California have probably come across the instructions that advise them to get their foreign-language documents translated into English. Colleges and universities often want a certified translation of academic records, degrees, and supplementary documents such as letters of recommendation and financial statements. They often need to have a word-for-word translation and do not accept summaries.

Official Translations for Undergraduate Admissions

Schools that offer 2 and 4-year degrees often expect international candidates to provide a copy of their transcripts and certificates earned plus their certified English translations. While they review the application they go through the candidates’ academic background to assess their strengths and determine whether they are likely to succeed in their program. CACFTI can translate academic documents for international students who are looking to apply to undergraduate programs in the United States. UCLA and USC are two institutions that offer various undergraduate programs. They take students from California, other states, and abroad. If you want to present your high school diploma and transcripts to the admissions office of an educational institution in the United States, please contact us.

Graduate schools in the United States usually ask international applicants to provide a copy of their transcripts and undergraduate degrees earned in their home country along with its certified translation. They sometimes want to see a list of the courses they completed or a short description of the courses. They want to make sure that the international candidates they admit to their programs have studied the same material as the applicants who have completed their degrees in the United States.

Certified Translations for PhD Candidates

International students who have earned their undergraduate and graduate degrees in a non-English speaking country might be asked to provide a copy of their academic documents and their certified translations. PhD programs are usually more competitive and as such require applicants to submit supplementary documents such as research papers, resumes, and letters of recommendation. Students who are hoping to pursue a PhD in the United States might need to get many documents translated. Please email us all the documents you need to have translated into English for a quote.

Professional Translations for Degree Evaluations

Some schools require international applicants to get their degrees evaluated. They do not review the academic records of international candidates. Rather they rely on degree evaluation companies to determine whether the degrees earned abroad are equivalent to the ones in the United States. Cases where you do NOT need a notarized translation

While many people believe that they need to have their documents for immigration applications translated and notarized, USCIS actually does not require the translation of foreign language documents to be notarized. For immigration purpose you only need a certified translation. In addition, courts in California do not require foreign language documents to be accompanied by a notarized translation. They only request a certified translation by a court approved translator.

Myths about Notarized Translations

-Despite popular belief that a notarized translation guarantees accuracy of translations, a notarized translation simply means that the translator or the translation company’s representative who signs the certification does so before a notary public. Consequently, the purpose of the acknowledgement form is probably just to verify the identity of the translator or translation firm’s agent. It does not suggest that the translation is correct or complete as notaries do not necessarily speak the source language. Even if the notaries speak the source language, they cannot modify the acknowledgement form to reflect that.

-Many people believe that they can get a notarized translation from notaries. Notaries are not necessarily bilinguals or possess translation skills. Even if they are professional translators, they probably cannot notarize their own translations. Likewise, translators are not necessarily notaries too. To get a notarized translation, you can contact a translation services company such as California Center for Translation & Interpretation.

I’m Ready! How Do I Begin?

Certified Translations for Hospitals & Medical Offices

Medical translation services in Los Angeles

Many hospitals, clinics, and medical offices in Los Angeles admit international patients who do not speak English or need to have their medical documents translated into English. The translation of international patients’ documents such as medical records, prescriptions, doctor’s notes, and test results are often very important to offices that do not have their own multilingual staff onsite. They render translation services to review the patients’ medical record, diagnose the medical condition, and prescribe medication or carry out the right medical procedures. Medical translators who focus on the translation of such documents remove language barriers for medical offices in United States that need to review their international patients’ medical records in the English language. Likewise, medical interpreters accompany patients to their appointments, clinical visits, and treatments. They facilitate communications between English speaking physicians and patients from other parts of the world. They may also assist international patient coordinators in scheduling and rescheduling appointments for patients who do not speak English.

Why medical translation matters

Hospitals that take medical tourists often rely on the works of medical translators when they review foreigners’ medical records. They usually have to know the medical history of international patients in order to make recommendations and prescribe medication. Without access to the English translations of international patients’ medical records, U.S. hospitals would probably face difficulty providing medical advice and diagnosis to international patients. Many professionals in the medical field ask patients from foreign countries to submit the certified translation of their medical documents. Our medical translators who have extensive experience in the industry truly understand the importance of clear translations in medical settings. They strive to deliver top-quality translations for medical teams.

Certified translations and medical tourism

Many patients around the world consider medical tourism because they are trying to reduce expenses or they are seeking a procedure that is not available in their home country. Others may just be looking for a second opinion from a medical professional overseas. International patients who are seeking medical treatments and consultations in the United States usually need to present the certified translation of their medical documents to English speaking doctors. They should get in touch with experienced translators who understand medical language and can translate and certify the content from the source language to English accurately. Translation companies that translate and certify medical documents according to the requirements of medical facilities in the United States help international patients submit their paperwork more efficiently.
